Tesla Dojo was supposed to be a game-changer. It was Tesla’s secret weapon to solve Full Self Driving and general AI. Then it seemed to fade out of the spotlight. I thought, well, there’s so much else to discuss, and a massive computer just isn’t flashy enough; it simply does its job in the background.
However, there was a surprising update on Dojo at the end of the Q4 2023 Tesla conference call for investors a couple of weeks ago. Elon Musk’s response to a direct question about Dojo was quite unexpected. You can watch the entire exchange here.
It’s not at all how Elon Musk used to discuss Dojo. But it’s not just what was said that was surprising; it was also how Musk expressed himself, seeming resigned to less-than-stellar results with Dojo.
