Walmart has announced plans to expand and modernize its facilities in the United States, focusing on sustainability. This includes the implementation of more energy-efficient equipment, lighting, lower-impact refrigerants, and the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging points.
Over the next 12 months, the company aims to remodel 650 stores across 47 states and Puerto Rico. Additionally, within the next five years, Walmart plans to construct or convert more than 150 stores in the U.S. All new and remodeled stores will embody Walmart’s Store of the Future concept, featuring EV chargers.

EV chargers coming… everywhere
The electric vehicle charging infrastructure is gradually expanding. Currently, we can see a significant expansion of existing charging networks as well as the creation of multiple new ones.
Walmart’s plan includes building a coast-to-coast network of electric vehicle fast-charging stations, aiming to make EV ownership a more convenient and accessible choice for Walmart shoppers and associates. The company initially revealed this intention in early 2023, noting that it currently has almost 1,300 charging points (provided by other networks) at 280 locations.
Considering that there are more than 4,700 Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs within 10 miles of approximately 90% of Americans, the plan to expand EV charging stations aligns with Walmart’s accessibility goals. Currently, there are only a few of the new Walmart EV charging stations available, which require the Walmart app to use while additional stations are being developed.

Walmart’s installation of EV charging stations could result in thousands of new chargers being available nationwide, ensuring individuals have access to convenient charging while participating in Walmart’s activities.
More details about the stations including their power output and pricing will be made available over time. At present, it appears that Walmart is utilizing stations with four DC chargers each to support fast-charging electric vehicles. Additionally, videos demonstrating the charging stations in action will be available for viewing.
