Octopus Electric Vehicles has just unveiled DriveFree, a used EV leasing program that includes unlimited free home charging. You can get more information about this program by visiting their website.

Octopus Electric Vehicles is a division of the UK-based energy technology company Octopus Energy Group. Launched in Texas in 2020 after the acquisition of Evolve Energy, Octopus Energy US caters to customers in Texas.

To qualify for the DriveFree program, you’ll need to live in the Houston area and have Octopus Energy as your primary home electricity provider. Octopus Energy will issue a credit on your energy bill to cover the cost of charging your electric vehicle at home. Customers enrolled in the DriveFree program will also receive a discount on all home energy usage.

Octopus EV US co-lead Chris George believes that driving electric can save Houston commuters money. The DriveFree program offers one- to four-year leasing plans and mileage options up to 25,000 miles per year. Along with offering maintenance and repairs covered by a manufacturer warranty, Octopus Electric Vehicles will send a mobile mechanic to your home or work. Additionally, trade-ins on an old car are available, and home delivery of your EV is included. The company also handles the title and registration for you.

While Octopus does not provide a free home EV charger or install one for you, they can connect you with a home EV charger and an electrician to install it through their partner, Treehouse. The current vehicle lineup offered by the company includes the Chevy Bolt, Hyundai Kona, VW ID.4, Polestar 2, Tesla Model 3 RWD, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Audi e-Tron.

Signing up for a lease with Octopus can be done online, and cars are currently being delivered in two to three weeks. For example, leasing a Tesla Model 3 RWD through DriveFree involves a monthly payment of $579 and $2,579 due at signing for a 36-month lease with 15,000 miles annually. Tesla’s website estimates a three-year gas savings for this model of $4,500. When considering the gas savings, the actual monthly cost will be $454 before factoring in the free home charging.

If you are interested in driving electric and want a seamless leasing process, DriveFree by Octopus is definitely worth considering. To learn more, Houston residents can visit Octopus’s website.
