There has been a lot of activity in the small electric vehicle space as companies develop small, lightweight, appropriately-sized EVs designed for city living. These vehicles are ideal for shorter distances, lower speeds, and tight parking situations. For many people, an e-bike might not be a feasible or desirable mode of transportation, and a full-size EV may be overkill in terms of size and expense. This is where a small electric city car comes into play. It offers just enough range, space, and speed to meet the needs of city dwellers.
One such city car is the CT-2 microcar from City Transformer, which is designed by city people around what city people truly need. City Transformer electric vehicles are engineered for superior city riding experiences without compromise, boasting superior maneuvering capabilities, outstanding parking properties, exceptional low total cost of ownership, and 75% space and weight savings.
City Transformer unveiled the prototype of its tiny 4-wheeled EV, the CT-1, a few years ago, and now the company is gearing up for the production of the CT-2, with deliveries estimated to begin in late 2025. The CT-2, with a top speed of 90 km/h (~56 mph), is uniquely transformable, allowing it to fit into narrower spaces for parking and navigation.
The CT-2 is powered by a 15 kW motor and has a range of up to 180 km (111 miles) per charge. At just 450 kg (~992 lb), it requires a smaller battery compared to full-sized EVs, making it a more efficient use of materials and electricity. The initial production run models will be priced at €16,000, and the company expects to begin mass production in the second half of 2025, with deliveries scheduled to start by the end of 2025.
