We have the first glimpse of the new all-electric Porsche Macan EV. This innovative vehicle will be powered by a 100 kWh battery pack supplied by China’s CATL. This release marks ten years since the debut of the SUV, representing Porsche’s second EV, following the Taycan and the brand’s first fully electric SUV. The Macan EV is also the first existing Porsche model to receive an electric upgrade. With the rise in sales of existing Porsche models, the SUV is playing a key role in the brand’s lineup, with similar success to the Cayenne. Considering these stats, the Macan EV is expected to play a prominent role in Porsche’s transition to electric. This SUV will be available in two variants: the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo. The base Porsche Macan 4 has a maximum WLTP range of up to 381 miles (613 km), whereas the Turbo version offers slightly less range (361 miles/591 km WLTP), but caries more power with 630 hp and 833 lb-ft for a 0 to 62 mph sprint in 3.3 seconds.

Porsche’s electric Macan will use CATL batteries

Additionally, a new report from Mobile China suggests that Porsche’s new electric Macan will be using batteries from leading Chinese battery supplier CATL. This news further solidifies CATL’s presence in the market, with other notable auto manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Tesla, Ford, Hyundai, Toyota, Volvo, and BMW also using CATL batteries.

CATL launched several new battery innovations, including a new Shenxing superfast charging battery in August, which is claimed to add 248 miles (400 km) with a quick ten-minute charge. It also unveiled its Qilin Battery, launched in 2022, which provides 13% more power. The Macan EV is capable of DC fast charging up to 270 kW and can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 21 minutes. With a starting price of $78,800 for the Porsche Macan 4 EV and an MSRP of $105,300 for the Turbo version, deliveries are expected to begin in the second half of the year.
