The Polestar 4, a mid-size crossover SUV with a coupe-like design, is now available for purchase in Europe and Australia, with deliveries set to begin in August. However, for customers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, it’s a different story.
Unfortunately, those in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico will have to wait until the middle of 2024 to get their hands on the battery-powered crossover. The Polestar 4 is in the same size category as the Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5, but it targets a different audience due to its higher price.

Polestar’s electric coupe SUV goes to Europe (and Australia)
The Polestar 4, the brand’s second all-electric model, is now available for sale in Europe and Australia. It falls between the Polestar 3 and Polestar 5 in terms of size and price and is expected to reach the United States in mid-2024.
In Europe, the Polestar 4 starts at 63,200 Euros, approximately $68,400 USD, making it about 50% more expensive than the most affordable Tesla Model Y or Hyundai Ioniq 5. In Australia, the starting price for the 4 is AUD 81,500.

The Polestar 4, a Swedish-designed and Chinese-built EV, justifies its higher price with a more upmarket positioning than Hyundai and Tesla. Additionally, the 4 is touted as having the lowest carbon footprint of all Polestar cars at launch.
As for performance, the Polestar 4 offers a long-range battery pack with a capacity of 100 kilowatt-hours and a choice of single- or dual-motor powertrain. The single-motor version offers 200 kilowatts (272 horsepower) to the rear wheels and a maximum driving range of 379 miles (610 kilometers) on the WLTP cycle, while the dual-motor version doubles the power and has a WLTP range of 360 miles.
In the United States, the EPA rating is estimated to be lower, with the single-motor version offering up to 300 miles on a full charge and the dual-motor version offering up to 270 miles.
Recharging can be done at up to 200 kW from a DC source and 22 kW from an AC source. The Polestar 4 also comes with pre-installed bidirectional charging hardware, with the vehicle-to-load (V2L) function to export power to tools and appliances available at a later date.
Standard features of the Polestar 4 include a heat pump, a 10.2-inch digital driver display, and a 15.4-inch central touchscreen running Android Automotive and the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform. Additionally, the vehicle comes equipped with the SuperVision Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) developed by Mobileye, which includes twelve cameras, one radar, and twelve ultrasonic sensors.
The Polestar 4, which is built on the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) and shares a platform with models like the Zeekr 001 and Volvo EX30, began production in China in November 2023. This means it may not qualify for the $7,500 tax credit in the U.S. due to the vehicle not being manufactured stateside.
