Lucid (LCID) is set to introduce a new range of police vehicles based on its luxurious Air electric sedan. The launch is expected to take place at the World Defense Show in Saudi Arabia next week. The EV startup made history by establishing the first car manufacturing plant in Saudi Arabia in September, with the new AMP-2 facility anticipated to have the capacity to produce up to 155,000 EVs annually once fully operational. This includes reassembling pre-manufactured Lucid Air EVs from its Casa Grande, Arizona plant, which has a capacity of up to 5,000 cars annually in the first phase. The company has also announced a deal with the Saudi government to sell up to 100,000 EVs over the next decade, with an initial commitment of 50,000 from Saudi. This commitment is part of the nation’s “Saudi Vision 2030,” which aims to increase non-oil GDP to 50% from around 16% currently, with Lucid’s electric vehicles playing a significant role in the transition from fossil fuels. It has been reported by Saudi Projects, a media firm dedicated to ongoing developments in the Kingdom, that Lucid is expected to reveal specially designed police vehicles at the World Defense Show next week. Lucid also recently announced the expansion of its US manufacturing plant as it prepares for “the next phase of growth,” including the production of its first electric SUV, the Gravity. In the last quarter of 2023, the EV manufacturer delivered 1,734 vehicles, bringing its total to 6,001 for the year. Lucid built 8,428 EVs in 2023 and is aiming to ramp up production. The company’s electric SUV, the Gravity, has a starting price of around $80,000 and is expected to help drive sales in 2024. The Lucid Gravity is projected to have over 800 hp and a range of over 440 miles, with the ability to tow up to 6,000 lbs. It also offers up to 112 cubic feet of cargo space and third-row seating that can fold flat, and is expected to be available later this year.
