Genesis U.S. EV Sales Quadrupled In 2023

Genesis experienced a significant increase in car sales in the U.S. in 2023, reaching a total of 69,175 units, which represents a 23% year-over-year growth. Specifically, in Q4, the brand sold 18,514 units, marking a 19% increase from the previous year. This growth was largely driven by the surge in sales of its all-electric cars, which now make up about 10% of its total sales volume.

Genesis EV sales soared in 2023

In 2023, Genesis achieved sales of over 6,400 all-electric cars, including the GV60, Electrified GV70, and Electrified G80 models in its lineup.

According to data released by the broader Hyundai Motor Company, Genesis’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales in the U.S. reached 2,042 units in Q4 – a new record and a 271% year-over-year increase. This represents an all-time high 11% share of the total Genesis sales.

Breaking down the sales by model, the most popular BEV was the E-GMP-based Genesis GV60, with a record 1,182 sales in Q4 (a 115% increase from the previous year). The Genesis Electrified G80 and Genesis Electrified GV70 achieved 145 and 715 units, respectively.

Genesis BEV sales in Q4’2023 and their year-over-year change are as follows:

  • Genesis Electrified G80: 145 (new)
  • Genesis Electrified GV70: 715 (new)
  • Genesis GV60: 1,182 (up 115%)
  • Total: 2,042 (up 271%) and 11% share

In 2023, Genesis sold 6,403 electric vehicles, marking a remarkable 303% year-over-year increase and accounting for 9.3% of the brand’s total sales.

Genesis BEV sales in 2023 and their year-over-year change are as follows:

  • Genesis Electrified G80: 1,329 (new)
  • Genesis Electrified GV70: 1,674 (new)
  • Genesis GV60: 3,400 (up 114%)
  • Total: 6,403 (up 303%)

For reference, in 2022, Genesis sold 1,590 Genesis GV60s, with the other two models being new. By 2030, the brand plans to transition to a 100% all-electric lineup.

The sales data for Genesis also allows us to calculate the total E-GMP electric vehicle sales by the wider Hyundai Motor Group. In total, Hyundai sold 70,314 E-GMP-based EVs, including 46,917 Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, 19,997 Kia EV6 and EV9, and 3,400 Genesis GV60 units.
