Volocopter celebrated a significant milestone as it announced the extension of its Production Organization Approval (POA) by the German government. This extension paves the way for the expansion of its production facilities and the commencement of serial production for the VoloCity eVTOL air taxis.
Specializing in electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft manufacturing, airports, and aerial systems development, Volocopter stands out as a key player in the growing Urban Air Mobility (UAM) industry. With global trials of eVTOL aircraft in progress, especially its flagship VoloCity eVTOL, Volocopter is making strides towards full-scale production.
In addition to trials in Germany, Volocopter has garnered interest from various companies in Japan and in NEOM, Saudi Arabia. The company was also selected to provide all-electric air taxi services during the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, denoting a significant achievement amidst regulatory challenges.
Volocopter set to begin in-house serial eVTOL production
Volocopter recently announced the extension of its POA granted by the German Federal Aviation Office (LBA), following previous certifications in 2021 and 2019. This milestone allows Volocopter to transition from prototyping to serial production, marking a significant achievement in the air mobility sector.
The approval signifies that Volocopter can now start pre-serial production of its VoloCity air taxis and continue autonomous in-house design and development. Volocopter’s CEO, Andreas Fehring, emphasized the importance of this certification for their production process and future scalability.
This is a major milestone for us. Aircraft design and production are strongly regulated for a good reason: to produce safe mobility products. I am pleased that Volocopter’s production facility has the trust of and stamp of approval from LBA to manufacture commercial aircraft that can be delivered to customers once the VoloCity receives type certification.
Volocopter’s aircraft are now approved for flying over urban areas, paving the way for commercial operations in Germany and beyond. The extension applies to their production facilities in Bruschsal, Germany, which were unveiled in 2023.
With a continual focus on clean urban air mobility, Volocopter is on the verge of providing air taxi rides globally. Watch their latest video showcasing the eVTOL manufacturing facilities in Germany to learn more.
