Volkswagen is introducing an advanced artificial intelligence chatbot, ChatGPT, as a standard feature in its new line of cars. This automotive-grade integration is designed to respond to a wide range of inquiries and will be available in models such as ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7, Tiguan, Passat, and the updated Golf, beginning in the second quarter of this year.
ChatGPT will be integrated into Volkswagen’s IDA voice assistant, accessible by saying “Hello IDA” or pressing a button on the steering wheel, without the need for additional apps or accounts. Through a partnership with Cerence Inc., owners will have access to an expanding artificial intelligence database, enabling voice-controlled infotainment, navigation, air conditioning, and general knowledge responses. The system will continue to evolve and respond to a wide range of queries efficiently.
If the internal system is unable to handle a query, it will be automatically redirected to AI, which will respond using Volkswagen’s voice. ChatGPT does not have access to vehicle data, ensuring privacy and security.
Cerence’s ChatGPT technology, integrated into Volkswagen’s IDA voice control, promises accurate and relevant responses to virtually any query. Volkswagen aims to make this advanced technology standard in vehicles from the compact segment and upwards, emphasizing their commitment to making technology accessible to all.
