Both car drivers and cyclists typically share the frustration of large box trucks clogging up streets and bike lanes in cities. However, could a miniature box truck built on a golf cart frame provide a solution?

We unearthed this unique vehicle in Alibaba’s electric car catalog. So, it’s definitely worth being featured as this week’s Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicle of the Week.

Box trucks are a common sight and usually take up too much space, particularly in crowded urban settings. Often used by delivery companies, they frequently block bike lanes or double park – with any fines incurred typically just considered a business expense.

One suggestion is that delivery companies should switch to these miniature box trucks for densely-populated urban areas. It might sound ridiculous, but it could be practical.

These tiny electric vehicles typically have a top speed of around 20-25 mph, which fits well with New York City’s 25 mph speed limit. Additionally, the rear cargo box seems like it could accommodate a substantial number of Amazon packages.

Even better, this vehicle appears relatively cheap at just US $6,000. Of course, that’s the China price and additional expenses, such as shipping, customs, port fees, and taxes, will need to be factored in. Nonetheless, it’s a deal considering that a new golf cart in the US often costs around $12,000. So, you’d save money and have a more functional version capable of carrying more than just golf clubs.

While this isn’t the first golf cart-based contraption worth considering, it’s perhaps one of the most practical ones yet.

Despite the practicality, I’m not going to actually order one of these, and I certainly wouldn’t recommend others do so either. Sourcing vehicles sight unseen from China’s largest shopping platform can present numerous risks. So, it’s advisable not to put your hard-earned cash at stake. Let’s just hope that these are eventually emblazoned with “AMAZON” and make deliveries in San Francisco soon.
