In recent electric vehicle unveilings, the ‘skateboard’ design, or the vehicle’s chassis that contains all the essential components, has become a focal point. This design typically houses the motors, controllers, batteries, and other necessary elements into a flat, wheel-connected platform, leaving a blank canvas for potential development. Surprisingly, China has already implemented this concept in the form of what they call a ‘parade float chassis’, built entirely with an electric drivetrain.

While not a high-performance vehicle, this parade float chassis has a top speed limited to 15.5 mph (25 km/h) and a range of 50-60 miles (80-100 km), making it ideal for around-town tasks, which are typically the domain of parade floats. The customizable nature of this electric vehicle drivetrain makes it easy to work on and offers endless possibilities for modifications.

One variant of this chassis, a six-wheel version, opens up opportunities for larger and heavier platform development. This could include vehicles such as a paintball technical, an electric market cart, or an electric camper van. Another exciting application would be an electric tiny home project, taking advantage of the off-grid system that can also power the home.
