We never thought we would see a new Lancia, but the 2024 Ypsilon is here and marks a fresh start for the Italian brand. Stellantis has made good on its promise to keep all 14 brands under its umbrella after the FCA-PSA merger. Lancia is getting a second chance to repair its damaged brand image, and the Ypsilon is the first-ever electric Lancia.
The subcompact hatchback shares the same CMP / eCMP platform as the Peugeot 208 / e-208, but it has a distinct design inside and out. With nods to the previous year’s Pu+Ra HPE Concept, the Ypsilon inherits some styling cues from the iconic Lancia Stratos rally car, with circular rear lights and an integrated “Y” motif in both front and rear lights. Other stylish elements include a glossy black finish on the wheel arches, side mirrors, and rear pillar.
Unique from its French cousin, the 2024 Ypsilon boasts a chic interior with a dual-screen setup measuring 10.25 inches, physical buttons for climate control, a wireless charging pad, three USB-C ports, and smartphone integration for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also features a special filter for the AC to remove 99 percent of harmful particles.
The electric variant of the Ypsilon is powered by a 154-horsepower motor and 51-kWh battery pack, providing a range of up to 250 miles. The new Ypsilon will be available in Europe beyond Italy, targeting consumers aged 40-45 and featuring an expanded range of dealer locations. After the Ypsilon, Lancia has plans to introduce an electric-only flagship model and a compact hatchback as part of its resurrection.
It’s clear that Lancia is committed to reviving its brand image, and the 2024 Ypsilon electric model is just the beginning of its reinvention.
