The Tesla Cybertruck has garnered immense attention worldwide, largely due to its controversial design that has divided opinions. Some love it, while others hate it.

This angular pickup truck has been in production for a few months now, with various reviews surfacing since last year’s uneventful delivery event. Among these reviews is one by Doug DeMuro, a renowned car reviewer, YouTuber, and friend of InsideEVs, who recently got behind the wheel of the Cybertruck.

Despite describing its design as “heinously ugly,” car enthusiast and YouTuber Doug DeMuro found the Tesla Cybertruck to be undeniably “cool.” DeMuro argues that features like towing capacity are insignificant when compared to the attention-grabbing presence of the Cybertruck on the road.

In a comprehensive 40-minute video featured above, Doug meticulously explores the quirks and features of the Cybertruck, highlighting its lack of Autopilot and Full Self-Driving systems. However, the pickup does boast adaptive cruise control, with steering control still in the hands of the driver. DeMuro mentions that Tesla plans to introduce the advanced driving assistance systems and virtual differential locking through a future software update.

Driving the Cybertruck is a unique experience, with the standout feature being the steer-by-wire system that offers dynamic steering control. Once accustomed to this system, DeMuro suggests that navigating the Cybertruck becomes straightforward.

Traditionally important truck attributes such as towing capacity and payload take a backseat in DeMuro’s assessment. The Cybertruck has evolved into a statement piece for those seeking a cool factor, leaving owners of high-performance pickups like the Ford Raptor and RAM TRX feeling somewhat obsolete.

DeMuro summarizes the Tesla Cybertruck as a vehicle with “insane performance,” “insane looks,” created by a company led by an “insane person.” Despite these descriptors, DeMuro concludes that the Cybertruck is, above all, “just plain cool.”
