I have been closely monitoring the electric motorcycle sector in Kenya for over 6 years. During this time, numerous startups have emerged in this industry, striving to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles. The electric motorcycle scene in Kenya is becoming increasingly exciting as many startups that have been running pilot programs are now moving towards early commercialization of their products.
One of the key players in this space is Roam. Roam is now expanding the production of its flagship Roam Air electric motorcycle. To make these motorcycles more accessible to consumers, Roam is collaborating with various partners to have them displayed in at least 30 stores across Kenya.
The Roam Air motorcycles are versatile, suitable for personal use, cargo transportation, and taxi services. They feature a removable dual battery pack, reducing downtime and boosting rider flexibility.

Roam has previously partnered with M-KOPA, a fintech platform offering credit and digital financial services to underbanked consumers in Africa. This partnership aims to facilitate the deployment of Roam motorcycles through an innovative Pay-As-You-Go model, enabling customers to access products instantly and build ownership over time through flexible micro-payments.

Recently, Roam partnered with Ridewell to establish an electric motorcycle showroom showcasing the Roam Air model, along with a range of parts and accessories tailored for electric motorcycle riders. The flagship store, situated opposite the Safari Park Hotel along the Thika Superhighway, was inaugurated on March 22, 2024. The Roam Shop Nairobi offers customers a personalized shopping experience with expert guidance from staff passionate about electric mobility. Additionally, the store provides various accessories and spare parts to enhance safety, comfort, and customization options for riders.
