Get a sneak peek at Rivian’s next vehicle on March 7, according to documents from a Laguna Beach City Council meeting. The documents revealed that Rivian had sought approval to use part of a public park for a “worldwide product launch event” labeled “Rivian R2 Launch,” hinting at a new addition to their lineup. Although Rivian ended up withdrawing its request, it seems likely that a big reveal is on the horizon.

Rivian’s Long-Awaited R2
EV startup Rivian made a splash in 2021 with its R1T pickup truck and followed that up with its R1S SUV. It’s planning to follow that up with smaller R2 vehicles that haven’t broken cover yet, but could soon.
Rivian founder and CEO R.J. Scaringe has hinted at plans to launch an R2 SUV in 2026 for around $50,000. This new model will be smaller and less expensive than Rivian’s current lineup, and it will be produced at their new plant in Georgia.
