New data has unveiled the top ten local authorities with the most environmentally conscious drivers.
Conducted by the accident compensation experts Claims.co.uk, the study analyzed the number of ultra-low emission licensed vehicles in each U.K. local authority, using the most recent data collected in the third quarter of 2023 from GOV.UK. The percentage of ultra-low emission vehicles was then compared against the total number of licensed vehicles to determine the local authorities with the highest percentage of eco-friendly drivers in 2024.
Westminster ranks first with the highest percentage of environmentally friendly vehicles, accounting for 28% of all licensed vehicles. In the third quarter of 2023, the central London local authority had 18,331 ultra-low emission vehicles out of a total of 65,900 licensed vehicles for all fuel types.
Stockport comes in as the second-best local authority for sustainable drivers with 27% of licensed vehicles being battery, plug-in hybrid, or other electric vehicles out of a total of 425,400 licensed vehicles in the Northwestern region.
The City of London secures the third spot, with 23% of all licensed vehicles being ultra-low emission vehicles, as evidenced by the 734 plug-in, hybrid, or other electric vehicles out of a total of 3,200 licensed vehicles in the local authority.
Windsor and Maidenhead takes fourth place with 22% of all licensed vehicles being ultra-low emission vehicles out of the 194,900 licensed vehicles in the area.
Slough ranks fifth with 19% of all licensed vehicles being environmentally friendly out of the 254,400 total vehicles on the road.
Aside from these top performers, the study identified the local authorities with the highest percentage of eco-conscious drivers, shedding light on various regions’ sustainability efforts.
