Currently, waiting times for driving tests are longer than usual, and the Driver Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is diligently working to reduce these wait times. Consequently, the extended waiting periods for driving tests are causing learner drivers to book their tests prematurely, before they are fully prepared.
In January 2024, the national average driving test pass rate was 47.2%, with 1 in 5 learners confessing that they only felt somewhat prepared for their test.
To combat this issue, DVSA is launching the second phase of the paid Ready to Pass? campaign. The campaign aims to raise awareness among learner drivers and their support networks about the available tools and resources. These resources include:
- Learning the 27 essential skills needed to pass the driving test and become a safe driver
- Tips on managing test and driving nerves
- Encouragement to take a realistic mock test
- Promotion of the benefits of private practice between driving lessons
This campaign seeks to broaden the reach and awareness of the existing free campaign activities. Messages are directed towards learner drivers, their families, friends, and driving instructors, urging them to access the readily available resources.
The campaign also advises learner drivers to schedule their tests only when they feel adequately prepared, encouraging them to postpone if necessary. Paid media advertisements will run on various platforms such as websites, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Reddit, and Google search results, leading audiences to the Ready to Pass? campaign website for additional resources and tips.
