Range Rover’s first EV creates hype ahead of launching
As Range Rover prepares to launch its first EV, the all-electric vehicle is already generating significant interest. According to the company, there are over 16,000 buyers on the waitlist for the new electric Range Rover.
Range Rover revealed a sneak peek of the highly anticipated EV in December after opening orders. The automaker anticipates that its first EV will be the “quietest and most refined Range Rover ever created,” while preserving the iconic British design and off-road capabilities of the existing gas-powered model. It will also provide superior towing, wading, and all-terrain technology compared to other luxury electric SUVs.
The new EV is designed to offer similar or better performance and all-terrain capabilities than the V-8-powered Range Rover. Range Rover subjected the new model to rigorous testing, including extreme temperatures, various driving conditions and terrains, and wading through up to 850 mm (33″) of water.

The Range Rover Electric, featuring an 800V architecture, is designed for fast charging and will be manufactured at the company’s factory in Solihull, UK, alongside the mild and extended-range PHEV Range Rover. The batteries and electric drive units will be assembled at JLR’s new Electric Propulsion Manufacturing plant in Wolverhampton, UK.
According to the company’s most recent update, the Range Rover’s first EV has already garnered significant interest, with 16,000 buyers on the waitlist since orders opened in December. The company also announced that Range Rover electric prototypes are undergoing testing on public roads, while a medium-sized electric SUV and new Jaguar prototypes are in development. This is part of JLR’s strategy to reimagine its brands, with Jaguar going all-electric and the other three brands releasing electric models by 2030.
