Consider 2024 as the perfect time to plan your ongoing professional development (CPD) for the year. We understand that it’s a very busy time, but it’s crucial to make room for skill development.

CPD encompasses any activity that has contributed to your learning something new, refreshing existing knowledge, improving skills, or keeping up-to-date with the latest developments.

When planning your CPD, take into account the skills you want to improve, new skills that will benefit you in your current role, and skills that will aid in your personal development.

To assist with this, you can:

– Check if local or national driving instructor associations are hosting free or paid meetings, events, or webinars and add them to your calendar.
– Enroll in training courses, whether online or in person.
– Collaborate with a registered trainer to enhance your driver training skills.
– Consume videos, podcasts, blog posts, magazines, and books.
– Shadow someone else’s job.
– Keep an eye out for blog posts and webinars from DVSA.

Some topics to consider focusing on include driving laws, rules, and techniques; driving and vehicle technology; digital and technology skills; personal growth and well-being; finance and business management; disabilities, learning difficulties, and neurodiversity; data protection; health and safety; and safeguarding. It’s always a good idea to review the ADI Code of Practice and the National Standard for Driver and Rider Training, both of which can be downloaded for free on GOV.UK.

The free template available on GOV.UK makes it easy to plan and record this year’s training and development.

When considering any CPD activity, keep in mind that the DIA is the largest provider of CPD to driver and rider trainers in the UK and is a globally respected provider of trainer training.
