New report reveals the volume of police-sized vehicles in the UK

The police in the UK seized 24,514 vehicles in the West Midlands, making it the worst region for vehicle seizures in the country.

According to an FOI report submitted by National Scrap Car to all 45 police forces in the UK, a total of approximately 196,817 vehicles were impounded, with uninsured/untaxed vehicles, road traffic collisions, and stolen vehicles being the main reasons.

The study revealed that of the reported seized vehicles, 56% were returned to their owners, 20% were destroyed, and 5% were sold at auction.

In the West Midlands, vehicle crime accounted for 7.7% of the total crime statistics. Additionally, it was found that the most common reason for vehicle impounding across the UK was lack of insurance or license.

According to data, 54,726 vehicles were impounded for this reason, with the highest volume in the West Midlands. The second most common reason for vehicle seizures was road traffic collisions, with a total of 47,031 incidents leading to car seizures.

This report sheds light on the main reasons behind the high volume of impounded vehicles in different regions of the UK, providing valuable insights into the state of vehicle-related offenses and law enforcement actions across the country.
