Truly affordable new electric vehicles are hard to come by, making the 2025 Volvo EX30 a standout. With minimalist style, utility, great range, and an enticing starting price of just $34,950, it’s a vehicle that caught my eye last summer and I believe it’s going to be many people’s “my first EV.”
My interest in the EX30 led me to place a $500 refundable deposit on it this past weekend. Pending a successful and satisfactory test drive, I could be among the first Americans to experience this innovative EV.
While my $500 deposit may seem steep for a vehicle I haven’t driven yet, I believe the potential value is worth it. The sleek and stylish EX30 is on the horizon to make waves on its American debut later this year.
Why The EX30?
When the first photos and details were released last summer, the EX30 and its sub-$35,000 price tag definitely turned heads. It’s an all-electric, small, affordable vehicle made with sustainable materials, further solidifying its unique position in the market.
Lowering the cost to this point meant creating a simple, user-friendly interior with a large, 12.3-inch vertical center tablet display and cleverly integrated features.
While there are concerns about its first-model-year status and some bugs that have been reported, the performance, efficiency, and potential lease savings when paired with the $7,500 tax credit make it an attractive proposition.
Sounds Great. Any Concerns?
Despite the many positive qualities, there are still some reservations. Test driving and experiencing the EX30 firsthand are essential before making a final decision. Additionally, the simplicity of the interior and the small size present potential drawbacks that need to be considered.
Competition from other EVs, such as the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Ford Mustang Mach-E, also play a role in evaluating the overall value the EX30 may offer.
So What’s Next?
The next step in this journey involves waiting for more information on how to configure and order the EX30. In the meantime, the plan remains flexible, allowing for a refund of the deposit if needed. The coming months will provide ample time to assess and deliberate on this significant decision.
