According to Conway, a bucket of soapy water, a sponge, and a chamois leather can do wonders for the exterior, while a jet washer is even better. However, interior cleaning can be trickier, so he provided some tips for saving time and effort. Here are a few of his suggestions:
Get Rid of Corrosion with Coca-Cola
Aside from quenching your thirst, a can of Coke can also clean the engine compartment by removing corrosion from the area surrounding the battery connections. It’s crucial to remove the battery unit, wear gloves, and pour Coke onto the affected areas before wiping them clean with a damp cloth. Reconnect the battery and turn over the engine to ensure everything is in order.
Brush Up Your Vents
Conway highlighted the importance of keeping the vents clean to prevent condensation and provide warmth. Using a hoover to remove dirt is effective, but an old paintbrush can be used to clear out any bits clogged in the air vents, ensuring that the blowers are clear and smelling fresh.
Put Some Putty to Good Use on Your Car’s Interior
According to Conway, specialist putty jammed into hard-to-reach areas such as cup holders, change slots, and around the gear stick and handbrake can effectively remove crumbs and dust, which cannot be reached by traditional cleaning methods.
Shine Your Headlights with Some Toothpaste
As the spring season approaches, Conway recommended using regular toothpaste to restore the original shine of the headlights, side lights, and tail lights. The baking soda in toothpaste is ideal for buffing up the plastic.
Detail Your Car’s Mats with a Perfect Finish
Finally, Conway suggested using inexpensive drill-attachment brushes to thoroughly scrub and banish dirt from car and van mats, giving them a perfect finish and completing the spring clean in style.
