Ford Mustang Mach-E turned into a rental car
In 2023, Ford’s Mustang Mach-E achieved a record year with over 40,700 units delivered, making it the second best-selling electric SUV after Tesla’s Model Y.
According to CarsDirect, Ford has included the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E in its dealer rental programs with the goal of potentially increasing the number of electric vehicles (EVs) in loaner services and providing an opportunity for non Model-E dealers to offer EV loaners.
This update allows Ford dealers to utilize the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E in their Ford Rent-A-Car and Dealer Daily Rental programs, while the 2024 model year Mach-Es will not be eligible. This decision aligns with Ford’s efforts to reduce costs, enhance profitability, and improve the overall customer experience through its Model E dealer program.
CEO Jim Farley reported that two-thirds of Ford dealers, or 1,920, joined the program by December 2022. Despite this, the number has since decreased to 1,550 as of last month. Ford remains committed to empowering its dealers, giving them the freedom to use the 2023 Mustang Mach-E as a rental, which could expand EV loaner options beyond Model E dealers.
Ford has made it easier for dealers to participate in their program by reducing the number of required L2 chargers and extending the installation deadline. The initial Model E program is set to run from 2024 to 2026, with plans to expand its EV lineup, including a new electric pickup and three-row SUV.
While Ford continues to offer the 2023MY starting at $42,995 with various incentives, such as $7,500 in Red Carpet Lease Cash, they have also introduced a new “Bronze” package for the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT, which promises to be the fastest version yet with a performance upgrade.
