DVSA Chair reappointed and new non-executive director appointed

Nick was initially appointed for a 3-year term in July 2021. His tenure has been extended for another 3 years, ensuring his continued pivotal role in the strategic and operational leadership of the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

Helen Aston has joined as a Non-Executive Director and chair of DVSA’s audit and risk committee, starting on 1 February 2024 in place of Emir Feisal.

With a background as a Chartered Accountant, Helen brings over a decade of leadership experience, having served as the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services at The Pensions Regulator. She also holds non-executive positions at Defence Business Services and the Valuation Office Agency.

Guy Opperman, Roads Minister, expressed his congratulations to Nick and Helen on their appointments, extending gratitude to Emir for his service to DVSA.

In a statement, Nick Bitel expressed his pleasure at being re-appointed as DVSA’s Chair and welcomed Helen Aston as a new non-executive director. He commended the dedication shown by colleagues during the challenging times faced post-pandemic and looks forward to collaborating with Helen to further DVSA’s mission of ensuring Britain’s roads are safe and efficient.

Helen Aston shared her excitement in joining DVSA’s board and leading the audit and risk assurance committee, indicating her eagerness to work towards the organization’s goals for 2030 in cooperation with Nick and other directors.

Loveday Ryder, DVSA Chief Executive, expressed delight in Nick’s re-appointment and welcomed Helen as the new Non-Executive Director, acknowledging Emir Feisal’s contributions to DVSA’s audit and risk committee.
