Exciting news as Tesla announces a free trial of Full Self-Driving (FSD) for all Tesla owners in the US for one month, starting this week.
The highly anticipated FSD Beta v12 software, labeled “mind-blowing” by CEO Elon Musk, includes significant backend upgrades utilizing “end-to-end neural nets” for decision-making, derived from Tesla’s vast driving data.
Despite the system still being at Level 2, where drivers remain responsible while the car is in use, Tesla continues to aim for Level 5 autonomous operation in the future.
Currently priced at $12k (previously $15k), FSD also offers a subscription model at $199/month due to a low take rate among owners.
However, in a bold move, Tesla plans to provide all owners with a one-month free trial of FSD, following recent trials and promotional incentives.
Meanwhile, questions linger about hardware compatibility for older Tesla models, as owners were promised FSD hardware since 2016 and upgrades were charged for with the subscription model launch.
As Tesla’s FSD system continues to evolve, improvements remain gradual, with hopes for substantial advancements towards full autonomy in the future.
Overall, until FSD reaches Level 3 capability, where the vehicle assumes driving tasks under specific conditions, the updates and demos serve as intriguing glimpses into the potential of self-driving technology.
