I apologize for the lack of recent updates, but I am very excited to share a project that I have been working on that I am incredibly proud of. It has been a collaborative effort with many amazing individuals and organizations.

As outlined in this article, we have successfully launched the largest self-driving electric shuttle network in the nation! This idea first came about two years ago during a conversation with my friend, Tyler Svitak, who is the Executive Director of the Colorado Smart Cities Alliance. We envisioned a system that could effectively address mobility challenges. At the time, low-speed automated shuttles were being tested in real-world environments, but only on a limited scale. We saw the potential for a larger-scale deployment, and our vision has now become a reality.

As someone working at EasyMile, I have witnessed public agencies implementing smaller-scale low-speed automated shuttle pilots. These pilots aim to address critical questions about infrastructure, public reception, safety, and the impact on existing transit services. To address these concerns, we developed City Forward, created by Stantec, to capture and share valuable industry insights.

The funding for this ambitious project involved creative thinking, as it needed support from multiple sources. This led to the introduction of AvCo (Autonomous Vehicles Colorado), a joint effort by the Colorado Smart Cities Alliance to launch the nation’s first highly automated, connected, electric, and shared public transit service. The project will be based in Golden, Colorado, with nine shuttles deployed in and around the Colorado School of Mines for at least a year.
