Top Gear recently conducted a thorough comparison of the new Volvo EX30 against other electric crossovers in the UK priced around £35,000 ($44,200). The focus of this head-to-head competition was on comfort, ergonomic design, interior space, and ride quality, targeting young couples and small families.

The Volvo EX30 immediately stood out due to its superior cabin materials and build quality. Ollie Marriage, Head of Car Testing at Top Gear Magazine, praised the interior, calling it “a work of art”. From the seats to the door handles, every detail was elegantly designed, making it the top-quality cabin among its competitors.

Offering a range of 275 miles with an EPA estimate and 270 horsepower, the Volvo EX30 is a notable addition to the compact crossover segment. Top Gear’s review team was impressed by its smooth, quiet ride and well-thought-out interior.

The Volvo EX30 boasts solid range numbers, with a WLTP estimated range of 298 miles for the single-motor trim. Performance-wise, the EX30 delivers 270 horsepower and can go from 0-60 in 5.3 seconds in its single-motor configuration. While there is some body roll during turns, the EX30 offers a smooth ride with minimal road noise.

Smart #1 Pro (2023)

Among the competitors, the Smart #1, a collaboration between Mercedes and Geely, caught attention. Despite sharing a platform with the Volvo, the Smart #1 offers unique interior design. While the reviewer mentioned a range of 193 miles, the WLTP estimate stands at 273 miles, adding to its appeal.
