Out of Spec Motoring’s YouTube channel recently delved into the EV pickup market, featuring a captivating tow test with the Tesla Cybertruck, Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, and Chevy Silverado EV. The challenge involved towing identical payloads of a Tesla Model 3 along a 230-mile route each way from Denver to Grand Junction through the Rocky Mountains. This journey tested the trucks’ capabilities in navigating significant elevation changes and extended downhill driving.

Among the competitors, the F-150 Lightning with Ford’s Tow Technology Package stood out for its advanced towing features. Also showcased was Kyle’s Rivian R1T Quad-motor with the Large battery pack, adding variety to the mix.

The Silverado EV 4WT impressed with its large battery pack, providing an advantage with an estimated nearly 300 miles of towing range even with a 6500 lb load. The Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast, while not matching the Silverado’s range, showed competitive charge speeds and potential for a strong finish.

As the trucks progressed through the course, each displayed unique characteristics. The F-150 Lightning focused on efficiency, the Silverado maximized its range, and the Cybertruck strategically planned for charging stops. In the end, the Silverado managed to outperform its competitors by efficiently completing the journey as planned.

The return trip faced challenges with adverse weather conditions, disrupting the race and leading to different outcomes for each truck. Ultimately, the Silverado EV proved its mettle by completing the route and impressing Kyle with its long-distance towing capability.
