Despite reports of the electric vehicle (EV) revolution slowing down, recent announcements from Volkswagen Group prove otherwise. The company experienced a healthy 34 percent increase in EV deliveries in 2023 compared to the previous year, marking a significant milestone in the industry.
According to Oliver Blume, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, “We are pleased with the market success of our strong brands and models. It is positive that all major brands and all regions are growing. We are resolutely driving forward the transformation. In 2023, we delivered 35 percent more all-electric vehicles to customers. We are also well positioned this year with numerous attractive new products despite ongoing challenges.”
Volkswagen’s delivery performance was solid across different regions. In Europe, the company saw a 19.7 percent rise in vehicle deliveries, with a 34.2 percent increase in all-electric vehicles compared to the previous year. Similar growth trends were observed in North America, South America, and the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in China. Overall, the company managed to increase its market share and set new sales records for its EV lineup in 2023.
Volkswagen Deliveries By Region
Europe, North America, South America, and the Asia-Pacific region all recorded significant increases in EV deliveries, showcasing the global growth and acceptance of electric vehicles. In China, Volkswagen Group achieved a 5.9 percent market share, solidifying its position in the world’s largest automotive market.
To further strengthen its presence in the EV market, Volkswagen Group has plans to launch numerous new models in 2024, including the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer, the long wheelbase ID. Buzz, the CUPRA Tavascan, the Audi Q6 e-tron, and the Porsche e-Macan.
The Takeaway
Despite some setbacks in 2023, Volkswagen Group’s commitment to increasing its market share and expanding its EV lineup demonstrates its resilience in the face of challenges. By introducing compelling new models and achieving growth in key markets, the company is positioning itself as a strong contender in the transition to electric cars.
